In a town like Fresno, you can barely drive down a city block without seeing two Mexican restaurants. But for longtime local Rudy Amavisca, there’s one spot he’ll happily drive across the city for: Adrian’s.
“The food is really authentic. This place is great. It’s one of the best places in Fresno to get great Mexican food,” Amavisca said on a recent winter day after picking up a few burritos for his family. “There’s other places across town, but you can’t beat this place.”
The magnetic pull of Adrian’s enchiladas, tacos and burritos has kept this restaurant busy for 45 years and turned it into a Central Valley treasure that’s often overlooked by outsiders. The setup is simple: a green and red one-story building sandwiched between a tire shop and a tobacco store where workers sling plates by the hundreds. The takeaway windows have bars on them and there’s no place to sit, but that’s of no importance to the hungry customers who happily queue up out front, day after day…
