BPD traffic stop leads to arrest of Indianapolis man on meth and narcotics charges

BEDFORD — An Indianapolis man was arrested early Jan. 11 after a traffic stop in Bedford led to the discovery of suspected drugs and paraphernalia, police said.

Cody Hamilton, 35, was taken into custody following a stop around 1:10 a.m. in the area of the 700 block of Seventh Street near Lincoln Avenue, according to a probable cause affidavit filed by Officer Sarah Haluda of the Bedford Police Department.

Haluda said she stopped a maroon sedan after observing issues with the vehicle’s registration. During the stop, officers noted inconsistent statements from the occupants and signs of nervous behavior. Officer Bell arrived to assist, and a police K-9 conducted a free-air sniff of the vehicle, which resulted in a positive alert for the presence of illegal drugs, police said.

A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered suspected methamphetamine, suspected narcotics, and drug paraphernalia located in areas accessible to the front-seat passenger, according to the affidavit. Hamilton was detained and later transported to the Lawrence County Jail…
