Body found in Ohio River near I-470 identified as Wheeling man

The West Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the person found in the Ohio River earlier this month near the I-470 Bridge.

Officials said the victim was 37-year-old Wheeling resident George Zachary Lekanudos. Emergency crews responded to reports of a body in the river near the bridge on Jan. 5.

Wheeling police said the cause and manner of death have not yet been determined, and the investigation remains ongoing.
