LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – As statistics on domestic violence cases and violations of protection orders continue to rise in Nebraska, leading to numerous high-profile murder-suicides over the past few years, one Nebraska lawmaker is pushing for stiffer penalties for violating protection orders.
State Sen. Jason Prokop of Lincoln said Friday that after speaking with multiple advocates and survivors, he thinks protection orders are not solving the problem they should be.
“Protection orders are only as good as actually the people that are subjected to them following those,” he said. “If they’re not followed, then they’re not having the impact they’re supposed to have to keep people safe.”…
