Mayor Moreno apologizes to DJs after Gallier Hall Mardi Gras comments, ensures pay

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans is reworking how DJs will be paid during Mardi Gras festivities at Gallier Hall after local DJs raised concerns about comments made during a discussion on city budget cuts.

Earlier this week, Chief Administrative Officer Joe Giarrusso told a City Council committee that the city is reducing its spending at Gallier Hall, cutting the budget from $240,000 last year to $40,000 this Carnival season. As part of that effort, Giarrusso said the city would rely more on guest DJs and volunteers.

Giarrusso later clarified that the city is not requiring DJs to play for free, but acknowledged that cost-cutting measures have changed how entertainment is being handled at Gallier Hall this year…
