OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – On this day in 1856, the Bank of Florence was chartered as Nebraska’s first-ever bank.
The Iowa financial firm Cook and Sargent owned and operated the place. It played an important role in the town of Florence’s aspirations to become Nebraska’s financial and transportation center.
Nebraska was a territory at that time, not a state yet.
