Man charged in connection with Kaka’ako explosion; bail set at $250k

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A 38-year-old man is now facing several felony charges following an explosion that damaged a building in Kaka’ako early Jan.

The Honolulu police said the incident happened on Jan. 8 around 2:45 p.m., when an unknown man threw what appeared to be a homemade explosive device into the covered driveway of a building on Queen Street.

Officials said the explosion damaged the outside of the building, including windows, lighting and wiring.

Police said the suspect ran off into a nearby alley shortly after the blast. According to the Honolulu Fire Department, remnants of possible fireworks were found near the scene. HFD confirmed there was no sign of a fire…
