Buffalo, Erie County officials urge no unnecessary travel during major winter storm

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) A major winter storm is approaching Western New York and is expected to bring heavy snow, strong winds and extreme cold over the next several days.

City and county officials announced a travel advisory beginning at 10 p.m. Sunday and urged residents to avoid driving unless necessary. A lake-effect snow band is developing near Buffalo and extending into the Northtowns, with several inches of snow expected overnight into Monday.

Snow is forecast to intensify Monday morning across the Northtowns, creating whiteout conditions. Accumulations of 7 to 12 inches are possible before the band shifts south later in the day…
