YORK COUNTY, Va. — A small fire in a York County Food Lion was quickly extinguished Sunday afternoon thanks to the quick actions of store employees as well as the county’s fire chief — who happened to be shopping in the store at the time.
The fire in the store in the 5200 block of George Washington Memorial Highway happened around 1:15 p.m. Chief Allen W. Baldwin was shopping in the store at the time and directed the initial response until fire crews arrived, according to a press release from the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety.
Officials said the fire started in a refrigerated cooler at the back of the store. No injuries were reported, and the damage was limited to the cooler. Crews ventilated the building, and employees and customers were allowed back inside…
