Report sheds light on golf cart rollover crash in The Villages

The release of a Florida Highway Patrol accident report is shedding light on a golf cart rollover crash in The Villages.

An 80-year-old Village of Belvedere resident was driving a blue 2020 Yamaha golf cart at 4:41 p.m. Jan. 6 traveling south on Oak Forest Drive approaching Melville Loop in the Village of Glenbrook and following a black 2020 Yamaha driven by a 69-year-old Portage, Mich. man who was also southbound on Oak Forest Drive in the Village of Glenbrook, according to the accident report which was released Sunday.

The Michigan man slowed down to pull into a private driveway in the 1100 block of Oak Forest Drive. The Villager attempted to pass the Michigan man’s golf cart, but the Villager misjudged the distance. He swerved in front of the Michigan man’s golf cart, resulting in the rear passenger side bumper of the Villager’s golf cart to clipping the front driver’s side bumper of the Michigan man’s golf cart.

The Villager attempted to overcorrect, but fishtailed and his golf overturned, landing on the passenger side. The Villager was ejected from the golf cart. He was transported by ambulance to Ocala Regional Medical Center…
