ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A long duration lake effect snow event is expected for communities west of Rochester. At times, heavy lake effect snow squalls will be moving and meandering across Orleans, Genesee, Wyoming Counties and points further to the west towards Buffalo. Significant accumulations in the most persistent bands could push snow totals beyond a foot with even greater amounts closer to Lake Erie. These squalls will bring whiteout conditions with significant blowing and drifting snow. Travel along the New York State Thruway could be treacherous at times as you go west towards Batavia. As a result, there is a winter storm warning for these areas.
