Juvenile driver killed after fleeing traffic stop in Howard County, officials report

HOWARD COUNTY, Md. (WBFF) — Authorities are investigating a fatal collision that occurred after a Howard County police officer attempted a traffic stop on a juvenile.

On January 17, at approximately 1:52 a.m., an officer in an unmarked police vehicle reported that he saw a Honda sedan speeding northbound on Route 29 in Columbia. The officer then followed the car and caught up to it as it was exiting onto Patuxent Freeway, according to the Maryland Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division (IID).

As the officer was driving eastbound on Patuxent Freeway, he turned on his emergency equipment and tried to conduct a traffic stop. The Honda driver didn’t stop and attempted to to take the exit ramp onto Broken Land Parkway, where the car immediately crashed into a wooded area and then caught fire…
