Mayor Moreno invites volunteers to transform New Orleans playgrounds on MLK Jr. Day

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – A brisk morning kept Seventh Ward kids off the monkey bars Sunday (Jan. 18) at Hardin Park’s playground, but the site is set for a facelift on Martin Luther King Jr. Day during Mayor Helena Moreno’s citywide day of service.

Hal Jefferson said he has lived in the neighborhood for more than a decade and that the playground is a pulse of the community.

“They’re doing a great job. They keep the grass cut,” Jefferson said. “They had some programs doing soccer out here and baseball.”

With broken benches, tattered equipment, overgrown brush and trash on the property, the Moreno administration is calling for volunteers Monday morning to lead by example…
