Man critically hurt after falling into crevice near the University of Oregon

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man was hospitalized in critical condition Sunday after officials said he was found unresponsive down a crevice near the University of Oregon.

At around noon, Eugene Springfield Fire crews were called to the area of 2000 Garden Avenue on reports of a possible cardiac arrest.

Officials said witnesses walking along the Willamette River had noticed a person had fallen down a 10 to 15 foot crevice and called 911.

Arriving firefighters then found a unresponsive man in his mid-30s pinned between a concrete wall and large quarry stone.

More crews were called in with specialized equipment to aid in the rescue, authorities said.

The man was taken to a hospital in critical condition with a body temperature of 76°F, over 20 degrees below normal…
