YANCEY COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction announced $197,929 in grants to 10 public school districts, including Yancey County, to expand Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs in homebuilding and residential construction.
According to a news release, the grants were authorized by the General Assembly to help support program costs that prepare students for careers in the construction trades.
“These grants put hammers, tools, and real-world skills into the hands of students across North Carolina,” said North Carolina Superintendent of Public Instruction Maurice “Mo” Green in a news release. “When students build homes, sheds, and structures alongside industry professionals, they’re not just learning a trade, they’re building a pathway to a career and strengthening their communities.”…
