Winter storm warning affecting West Michigan until Tuesday morning – could see 8 inches of snow

On Sunday at 3:51 a.m. EST the National Weather Service released a winter storm warning valid from 4 p.m. EST until Tuesday 7 a.m. EST for Ottawa, Allegan and Van Buren counties.

“Heavy snow and blowing snow expected. Near blizzard conditions possible. Total snow accumulations between 5 and 8 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph,” comments the weather service. “North-south roadways will be especially vulnerable to blowing and drifting snow.”

“Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening,” explains the weather service. “Persons should consider delaying all travel. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution. Consider taking a winter storm kit along with you, including such items as tire chains, booster cables, flashlight, shovel, blankets and extra clothing. Also take water, a first aid kit, and anything else that would help you survive in case you become stranded.”
