Update: Weather alert issued for 11 Michigan counties Monday afternoon

The National Weather Service released an updated special weather statement at 11:55 a.m. EST on Monday until 2 p.m. EST for Shiawassee, Genesee, Lapeer, St. Clair, Livingston, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Wayne, Lenawee and Monroe counties.

“Lake effect snow bands continue through the early afternoon, mainly south of I-69. An additional dusting of snow accumulation will be possible. West winds around 20 mph with gusts to 40 mph, leading to blowing snow. Air temperatures will range between 12 and 19 degrees. Wind chills near zero degrees,” says the weather service. “Pockets of clearing have developed between snow bands. This will lead to highly variable driving conditions through the early afternoon. Slick conditions particularly on bridges, exit ramps and overpasses. Gusty winds lead to blowing snow, which may reduce visibility below one mile at times.”
