City leaders call Savannah’s MLK Parade one of the holiday’s biggest parades in the country

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – Savannah is celebrating civil rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with what city leaders are calling one of the holiday’s biggest parades in the country.

The 48th annual MLK parade kicks off at 10 a.m. Monday, with around 300 units expected to march downtown in honor of the civil rights activist. City leaders say the parade is one of the largest in the country.

Traffic and parking impacts

The biggest impact will be on downtown traffic. Streets along the parade route, including portions of East Broad, Broughton, MLK Jr. Boulevard and Anderson, will close to thru traffic starting at 9 a.m.
