A popular discount retailer is now offering customers “crazy deal” gift cards for rolled coins.
Ocean State Job Lot has announced the return of its limited edition “Crazy for Coins” promotion, which gives customers the chance to exchange their rolled coins for store gift cards and an additional “Crazy Deal” gift card.
Coin Shortage in the U.S.
Over the last year or so, numerous retailers have reported they are struggling to make change for customers paying with cash at stores across the country. Last August, we learned that the U.S Mint produced its last batch of pennies, leading many retailers to begin various promotions encouraging customers to exchange their pennies for store credits.
Back in November, Price Chopper and Market 32 held their first “Double Exchange Day” at all stores. During the one-day event, a penny was worth 2 cents when you exchanged it for a Price Chopper or Market 32 gift card, worth twice its value. The event resulted in customers exchanging almost 20 million pennies, worth $197,400, at stores in New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania.
Free Gift Cards at Ocean State Job Stores
Ocean State Job Lot is hoping for similar success, as it has announced the return of its “Crazy for Coins” promotion, offering gift cards for rolled coins. The coin promotion, which is available for Job Lot Insiders, will give customers who use at least $10 worth of rolled coins for an Ocean State Job Lot gift card a “Crazy Deal” gift card equal to 40% of their gift card amount.
How it Works
For example, use rolled coins to buy a $10 Ocean State Job Lot gift card and get a $4 Crazy Deal. The amount of Crazy Deal gift cards will increase the more you buy. For example, use rolled coins to buy a $50 gift card, and get a $20 Crazy Deal gift card. Use rolled coins to buy a $100 Ocean State Job Lot gift card, and get a $40 Crazy Deal gift card.
