A&M freshman Narumbe sets school record in 1,000 meters

LUBBOCK – Texas A&M freshman Peter Narumbe broke the school indoor record in 1,000 meters on the final day of the Corky Classic on Saturday at Texas Tech’s Sport Performance Center.

Narumbe ran 2 minutes, 19.88 seconds to break the old mark of 2:21.93 set by Luca Santorum at the Corky Classic last year.

Narumbe’s time is the 17th fastest in NCAA history and ranks third among freshmen. A&M took second and third in the event with junior Ondrej Gajdos (2:23.30) and graduate Reece Sharman-Newell (2:23.69)…
