Several WNY travel advisories in effect

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A winter storm warning has been issued for all of Western New York with the exception of Allegany, Niagara and Orleans Counties until Wednesday at 4 p.m. due to heavy lake effect snow and strong winds.

Travel advisories are in effect for the following areas:

  • City of North Tonawanda: issued Monday, Jan. 19 until 12 a.m.
  • City of Dunkirk: issued Monday, Jan. 19 at 11:45 a.m. until further notice.
  • Village of Fredonia and Town of Pomfret: issued Monday, Jan. 19 at 6 p.m. until Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 6 p.m.
  • Erie County: issued Sunday, Jan. 18 at 10 p.m. until further notice.
  • Wyoming County: issued Sunday, Jan. 18 until further notice.
  • Genesee County: issued Monday, Jan. 19 until further notice.

The Buffalo Skyway is currently closed due to the winter storm until further notice, according to Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz.

Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and use caution on the roads if travel is required.
