JCPS proposed budget cuts target mental health practitioners

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Jefferson County Public Schools is working to reduce a budget deficit by cutting $142 million in district spending for the 2026-2027 school year, but one proposal in the draft budget has former teachers and students pushing back.

JCPS has confirmed that mental health practitioner positions are on the chopping block. The exact number of positions expected to be eliminated was not disclosed.
