Cold front prompts emergency warming centers in St. Lucie, Okeechobee counties

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — As a major cold front sweeps across the state, local officials have issued urgent alerts and opened emergency warming centers to protect residents from dangerously low temperatures.

St. Lucie County: Percy Peek Gym

In partnership with the City of Fort Pierce, the nonprofit In the Image of Christ is operating a shelter at the Percy Peek Gym at 2902 Ave. D.

  • Hours: Opens today, Jan. 18 at 5 p.m. and closes Monday at 8 a.m.
  • Transportation: Free ART bus rides are available from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at locations including the Port St. Lucie Intermodal Station, Publix Plaza at Taylor Creek, Pinewood Park, Prima Vista Crossing Bus Stop, and the Fort Pierce Intermodal Facility.
