Prohibition-era gun discovered in walls of distillery linked to Al Capone

THORNTON, Ill. (WGN) — A Chicago-area distillery known for its deep ties to Al Capone and the Prohibition era has uncovered a striking new piece of its past, hidden for decades inside its walls.

Employees at Thornton Distilling Co. discovered a loaded gun believed to be more than a century old while exploring part of the historic building.

The distillery is typically closed on Mondays, but founder Andrew Howell and head distiller Ari Klafter were inside the building catching up when the discovery was made…
