BLK Clarksville hosted MLK Day of Action, Not Apathy at APSU’s Morgan University Center Ballroom on Saturday, an event described as “a powerful, community-wide gathering honoring the life, legacy, and leadership of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.”
The four-hour event kicked off with keynote speaker Dr. Ricardo Guthrie of Fisk University, who focused on some of Dr. King’s lesser-known quotes. Breakout training sessions were next, with attendees enjoying a presentation on the Basics of Running for Office, as well as an Empowered Voter Workshop, and a Legislative Advocacy Workshop.
Keynote Speaker, Dr. Ricardo Guthrie of Fisk University said, “I looked at Dr. King’s quotes ‘The fierce urgency of now’, and ‘tomorrow is today’. My focus was that, yes, we have been through this and we will go through it again, because we already saw the success in 1963, and we will see success in 2030 or whenever, though right now it’s hard to see the future…
