Dry weather and low humidity in northeast GA causing risks for outdoor fires

Several public safety departments in northern Georgia are strongly urging local residents to avoid any outdoor burning activities for Tuesday, January 20, 2026. The reason: extremely dry weather conditions and low humidity.

Authorities with the White County Public Safety , Dawson County Fire and Emergency Services and Fannin County Emergency Management Agency have posted on social media early Tuesday about the High Fire Danger warnings. This comes following the National Weather Service (NWS) post out of Peachtree City as of 1:15 a.m. on Tuesday, January 20:

“Relative Humidity of 25 percent or less can be expected for 4 or more hours this afternoon into the evening. Winds will be NW at 8 to 12 mph. With dry fuels, high fire danger conditions can be expected. Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities whether you may burn outdoors. If you do burn outside, use extreme caution.”
