Mississippi youth meet man arrested 109 times during civil rights movement

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – While many people enjoyed a day off Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, young leaders across Mississippi chose to spend it differently – learning from someone who lived the civil rights struggle.

At the Two Mississippi Museums in Jackson, youth met Hezekiah Watkins, a man arrested 109 times fighting for civil rights who now works at the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum.

“If you come here, you’re going to get the truth,” Watkins said. “It’s not going to be watered down in any way. It’s going to be told to you the way it happened.”…
