A major winter storm is still being forecasted to slam into Texas later this week from Friday until Sunday. While it’s still too early to say what exactly Lubbock or even most of Texas will see, we know it’s going to be cold and there is a good chance or snow.
It’s also a good reminder of a fairly recent “Historic” blizzard that hit the City of Lubbock.
2015 Lubbock Blizzard
On December 27, 2015, Lubbock experienced its third worst snowstorm in the history of the city. More than 10 inches of snow fell over the course of two days and there were thousands of power outages. Many residents stayed home as even emergency personnel had a tough time on the roads. At one point, local jeep drivers formed a group to rescue citizens who were stuck in the snow.
The most snowfall Lubbock has seen was back in 1983 when 16.9 inches fell on the city. In 1961,12.1 inches fell on Lubbock putting it in second place. In 2015, about 11.2 inches of snow fell.
