Toyota has begun hiring some of the 400-plus people it’s adding in San Antonio to operate a new rear axle plant now racing toward completion.
The 500,000-square-foot facility is being built near Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas Inc.’s original South Side plant, which produces the Japanese automaker’s gas- and hybrid-powered Tundra pickup and hybrid Sequoia SUV. Rear axles from the new plant will go into those vehicles and be exported for use in Tacoma pickups produced in Mexico.
