Pioneering Aurora Beer Store That Helped Shape DIY Brewing Scene Is Closing

The Brew Hut announced that it will shut down by the end of February, ending a long chapter in Aurora’s history. The store is known for its early influence on the local brewing community.

Birthplace of Dry Dock Brewing Announces Closure

Located at 15120 East Hampden Avenue in Aurora, The Brew Hut was first opened in 1995. The business was taken over by Dry Dock co-founder Kevin DeLange in 2002. He later opened it next to The Brew Hut as a tasting room brewery. The brewing store announced the closure on January 15 in a social media post.

“After more than 30 years of serving the homebrewing community, it is with heavy hearts that we announce The Brew Hut will be closing its doors at the end of February,” the post said. The store noted that it began as a small homebrew supply shop and expanded into a significant business.

“The Brew Hut was where our story began. What started as a small homebrew supply shop grew into something much bigger, eventually leading us to open Dry Dock Brewing right next door. Together, these two businesses helped foster a community that shaped not only our own journey, but the paths of countless homebrewers, brewers, and breweries across the region,” the post said…
