Speeding truck knocks powerline, cuts power in Eugene neighborhood

EUGENE, Ore. – A high-speed crash in Eugene left a neighborhood without power on Sunday when a pickup truck collided with a power pole, according to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.

LCSO officials said that the accident occurred at 11 a.m. on Jan. 18 at the intersection of Calla Street and Hyacinth Street. Witnesses reported that an older teal or light blue Chevrolet or GMC pickup lost control, knocked down a power pole, and caused a powerline to fall across several other poles.

The driver fled the scene after the truck continued through a front yard. Two residents narrowly escaped injury from the falling powerline. The neighborhood experienced a power outage while repairs were made, leaving many residents unable to access their security footage.
