Secret Service Investigates Case Of Counterfeit Cash At East Rutherford Lowe’s, Police Say

On Friday, Jan. 16, police in East Rutherford were notified of a 2016 Hyundai Sonata that had a BOLO (Be On The Lookout) alert for the use of fraudulent currency in Medford Township that was in the borough’s Lowe’s parking lot on Route 17, Police Capt. Jeff Yannacone said.

An investigation found that Clifton Owens, 21, of Willingboro, who was in the car, had returned an item at the East Rutherford store that he’d purchased using counterfeit cash at the North Bergen store, the captain said.

Owens tried to purchase something in the East Rutherford store using the fake cash, but an employee questioned the money he was using, police said…
