Remembering cyclists killed in Savannah-area hit-and-run crashes

In the past four months, there have been four people hit by cars in the Savannah-Chatham County area, two of which died from injuries sustained in those accidents.

Thomas Johnson, 59, was struck while cycling on on Ferguson Avenue off of Diamond Causeway. on Oct. 22. According to his obituary, the impact from the accident broke bones and caused a traumatic brain injury to the frontal lobe. After 55 days in the Trauma and Neuro ICU at Memorial Health University Medical Center, Johnson died.

Tara Greenway was indicted by a Chatham County grand jury on Jan. 14. The 52-year-old was formally charged with homicide by vehicle in the first degree, homicide by vehicle leaving the scene, serious injury by vehicle, hit and run and driving under the influence…
