Ridgeland man sentenced for failing to pay child support

RIDGELAND, Miss. (WJTV) – A 43-year-old Ridgeland man was sentenced on one count of felony desertion for failing to pay more than $31,500 in past-due child support.

Attorney General Lynn Fitch (R-Miss.) said Corey Outland was sentenced on January 13, 2026, to five years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) with time suspended and five years post-release supervision.

“Parents have a legal and moral obligation to provide for their children, and we will continue to hold those who fail to do so accountable,” said Fitch. “I am grateful for our AGO prosecutors and investigators and our law enforcement partners who are committed to ensuring that Mississippi’s children receive the support they deserve.”

Outland was ordered to pay full restitution in the amount of $31,538.
