MINNEAPOLIS — Former Acting U-S Attorney Joe Thompson, Melinda Williams — who led the criminal division — and four other prosecutors who resigned along with them last week promptly removed their belongings from the Minneapolis federal courthouse.
Sources say they resigned as an matter of principle after the DOJ instructed them to stop investigating the ICE shooting of Renee Good and instead investigate her and her wife.
“I think every federal prosecutor is committed to the rule of law, and to following facts and making charging decisions based on an impartial, nonpolitical analysis. And I think any federal prosecutor would feel concern if they were getting direction to do something else. And if I were ever in a difficult situation like this, I would hope I would have the courage to make the right choice,” said Anders Folk, who held leadership positions at the DOJ, served as Acting U.S. Attorney in Minnesota and prosecuted here for many years before that…
