Deadline to Clear Homeless Camp Today

Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –A judge has ruled that the owner of Quirky Used Books and More must clear its property of a homeless camp by end of day today (Tue). The judge also made clear the City of Albuquerque can’t allow the camp to continue and warned further harm and damage would occur without intervention. The court found the property to be a public nuisance, granting an emergency petition filed by the City of Albuquerque. The action by the city came after a fatal shooting at the bookstore late last year. Months prior complaints from neighboring businesses were lodged against Quirky about crime, safety concerns and sanitation issues. Quirky’s owner, Gillam Kerley, said he attempted to create a safe outdoor space for homeless people that complied with city regulations…..
