Weight Limits Temporarily Reduced on Seven Bridges in Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 2

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (Jan. 21, 2026) — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 2 has temporarily reduced weight limits on seven state highway bridges following a statewide re-evaluation of bridge structures.

The reductions, which took effect Jan. 21, were implemented after engineers completed federally required recalculations of load ratings to assess a specific type of stress known as shear stress on bridge support beams. Bridges found to be susceptible to that stress must be posted with lower weight limits until needed repairs or reinforcements can be completed.

Transportation officials said most “single unit” vehicles — including passenger cars, pickups, SUVs and some delivery trucks — will be largely unaffected. However, the new limits could restrict heavier vehicles, including 40-ton trucks and other large commercial loads…
