It’s a new year, but the Eno River State Park is still healing from Tropical Storm Chantal

DURHAM, N.C. — Tropical Storm Chantal damaged areas of the Eno River State Park in July. Now, over six months later, many parts of the park have recovered, while others will take more time.

  • Many trails of the Eno River State Park have reopened since Chantal, others remain closed
  • Some damaged trails need to be rerouted away from the riverbank
  • The Swining Bridge still needs to be repaired but will not be replaced
  • It is advised not to go into closed areas of the park for your own safety

Today, the Eno River State Park is filled with outdoor lovers lacing up their shoes for a hike, but six months ago, the park was vacant and filled with debris from Tropical Storm Chantal.

“I didn’t realize how much I missed hearing people having fun and kids down here playing and just voices knowing that people were back here because this is what the park’s for,” Eno River State Park Superintendent Kimberly Radewicz said…
