Teen accepts plea deal, avoids 85-year sentence in Wells Street shooting

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A Fort Wayne teen who was facing up to 85 years in prison in connection with the killing of a man inside a Wells Street home this past summer will instead serve only six years if a judge accepts a plea agreement he made with prosecutors Tuesday.

Jayden Cosme was 18 when he was charged with murder in the shooting death of 59-year-old Laron Duane Rosse.

According to court documents, Cosme and then 19-year-old Jaylen Murray told investigators they acted in self-defense when they got into a verbal argument with Ross. Murray is accused of shooting Ross, and he and Cosme then left the scene.

Cosme’s previous charges involved a term of 45 to 65 years, plus a sentencing enhancement for using a firearm, which can take up to 20 years on any given sentence…
