Corewell Health eyes construction of 180-bed hospital tower in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Corewell Health wants to expand Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids with a new tower that would include 180 beds, a new emergency department and 12 to 16 operating rooms.

The expansion, which is in the early planning stages, would be built at Michigan Street and Barclay Avenue, across from Butterworth Hospital, 100 Michigan St. NE. A pair of older Corewell buildings that occupy the site of the proposed tower would be demolished.

Clinics and administrative offices housed in those buildings would be relocated…
