Man who set Cumberland County apartment building on fire over debts will see jail time

A Perry County man previously charged with more than 50 crimes because he drunkenly set fire to a Cumberland County apartment building last March will spend years in state prison.

Cumberland County Judge Michelle Sibert sent William Kurtz Jr., 46, to jail for four to eight years for the March 25 early morning attack on the residential building in the 1100 block of Second Street in East Pennsboro Township.

Ten people, three cats, a dog and a bird were inside at the time of the fire, police said. Nobody was hurt during the incident. After the fire, police chased him by car throughout Harrisburg, eventually detaining him in the woods near a homeless encampment…
