Comcast could face big fines after failing to respond to 35K Michigan dig requests

LANSING, MI – Cable company Comcast Corp. may be on the hook for a massive violation of Michigan law requiring it to mark its underground equipment when construction crews or homeowners plan to excavate.

State regulators in Lansing have ordered Comcast to explain why it shouldn’t be found guilty of breaking the state’s MISS DIG law after an initial investigation found it allegedly failed to respond to 35,721 requests for marking its underground lines in two and a half months last year.

The law requires utilities to mark their buried infrastructure within three business days of receiving a request through the state’s MISS DIG 811 system…
