ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – People across the stateline joined a nationwide walkout Tuesday as part of a “Free America” event organized by Women’s March.
The walkout took place at Women’s Suffrage Centennial Plaza and was co-hosted by Women’s March Rockford and the League of Women Voters of Greater Rockford.
Organizers say the event encouraged people to step away from work, school and daily routines to reflect on civic engagement, democracy and women’s rights.
“This is a moment for women and all people who support them of course to walk out of their jobs walk out of commerce walk out of interacting in a way we have become familiar with,” said Mary McNamara Bernsten representing Women’s March Rockford.
