A small Texas Hill Country town just outside of San Antonio is increasing its use of a controversial license plate recognition technology that it is already using at all of the major entry points into the city.
The City of Fair Oaks Ranch city council, in a Thursday, January 15, meeting, unanimously approved a multiple-use agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation to place the cameras on state-owned roads in the city, paving the way for technology that has raised privacy concerns.
The city utilizes Flock Safety cameras, which assist police in missing persons cases, criminal investigations, and tracking vehicles of interest — such as potentially stolen cars — in national law enforcement databases…
