Former APD lieutenant pleads guilty in DWI Deception scandal

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Former Albuquerque police lieutenant Justin Hunt took a guilty plea in federal court for his role in the DWI deception scheme among New Mexico’s law enforcement agencies.

Hunt was the first APD officer to resign after the scheme came to light in 2024.

Hunt pleaded guilty to conspiracy and extortion charges. The plea agreement includes a recommended sentence no greater than 57 months. The maximum penalty allowed is 20 years of imprisonment…
