Salem man awarded nearly $1 million decades after wrongful murder conviction

SALEM, Ore. (KPTV) – A Salem man was awarded nearly $1 million from the state on Thursday, 17 years after a judge overturned his murder conviction citing “junk science.”

“I’m still in a bit of a state of shock,” Scott Cannon said. “We’re coming up on the 28th year fighting against Oregon. To have it be over is just … it’s hard to imagine actually.”

Cannon received $925,000 and a certificate of innocence from Oregon for the 11 years he spent in prison for a crime he did not commit…
