Injunction halts admissions at Canton’s House of Loreto nursing home amid ‘real and present danger’ findings

CANTON, Ohio — A Stark County magistrate granted a preliminary injunction against a Canton nursing home Wednesday after state health inspectors found widespread care failures that they say place residents in “real and present danger.”

According to court documents, Magistrate Kristen S. Moore gave the following orders to the House of Loreto:

  • Not admit any further residents to the nursing home
  • Cooperate with the Ohio Department of Health and the ombudsman from the Department of Aging to transfer all residents to other nursing homes or other appropriate care settings
  • Comply with all staffing, health and safety requirements for nursing homes found under Ohio and federal law while any residents are present

As of Wednesday, all but four residents at the House of Loreto “have been transferred to alternative health care facilities of their choosing,” the court noted.

Moore’s injunction came on the heels of a temporary restraining order against the House of Loreto that was granted last week.
