CALVERTON, Md. (7News) — Montgomery County police are searching for the driver of a car that struck a 73-year-old woman on Columbia Pike earlier this month and fled the scene, leaving her in the roadway where she was hit a second time.
Police say Florence Chumbow had just gotten off a bus on the evening of Jan. 12 near Columbia Pike and Fairland Road. She was walking home — only about five minutes away — when she attempted to cross Route 29. Investigators believe she stepped into the crosswalk before the signal indicated it was safe to cross.
