‘This has been going on for years’: North Charleston residents call for safer sidewalks

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — Residents are bringing up sidewalk concerns across North Charleston including not enough sidewalks, uneven sections and a lack of safety features including speed humps and crosswalks.

Sidewalk concerns have been a long-term issue across the city, specifically on Rivers Avenue, Azalea Drive and more suburban areas with a high elderly population. This also comes after a resident caught a close call on his Ring camera showing a car almost hitting a neighbor walking her baby on Edith Street in Ashley Villas.

Samuel Whatley has lived on Edith Street off Dorchester Road and Evanston Blvd for over a decade and says the lack of sidewalks has been a major concern for him and other neighbors…
