FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — For years, Fort Wayne City Utilities has been strategically buying land to increase elbow room around some of its most important facilities.
“We’re doing it at both plants, and we have been doing this for at least 15, 20 years, which is when we started buying these,” said Frank Suarez, Chief of Communications with Fort Wayne City Utilities.
The acquisitions continued at Tuesday night’s Fort Wayne City Council meeting as City Utilities asked the council to purchase a property at 614 Wagner St. It sits just north of the Three Rivers Water Filtration Plant, and is the seventh property on the street the city has snagged.
“Our plant was built over 90 years ago, and as we’ve continued to grow as a community, grow with customers, there certainly is a need to continue to sometimes expand,” Suarez said. “There are new regulations constantly that are coming. When properties become available, it’s prudent that you go ahead and try to purchase those.”…
